Meet Amber Spiewak – Volunteer Spotlight

Posted on: 10-18-2011 Posted in: People That Make it Happen

Today we talk to Amber Spiewak who has worked on a number of entertainment committees for the Festival.

How/Why Did You First Get Involved with the Baby Fold and the Festival of Trees?

I first started with The Baby Fold because my sorority, Kappa Delta, does a Bowl-a-Thon every year to raise money for The Baby Fold.  From there I applied for an internship with the Development and Public Relations office and worked with Di Shepherd on Festival of Trees programming from August to December of 2010.

Tell Us About the Areas You Have Volunteered and About Your Experience

I worked as a liaison between the Fashion Show Committee and The Baby Fold, I was Chair of the Concert Among the Trees and I worked with ISU students to put together the event, I also co-chaired the Designer Reception. I enjoyed doing Concert Among the Trees the most because it was with my area of expertise in music and I had worked with the group before. I loved doing all the different aspects of Festival of Trees and really embraced all of the different positions to help me learn as an intern!

What Is Your Favorite Part of the Festival?

My favorite part of the Festival is definitely seeing all of the vendors and donations that come in. I LOVE the Gingerbread House Village! Last year I was especially happy to see that there were houses made for both ISU and IWU (since I went there!).

Anything Else You Would Like to Add?

I hope everyone gets a chance to do some volunteering for The Baby Fold, I wouldn’t trade any of my experiences there for the world. The people there are so happy and ready to put forth such amazing effort for the kids and I think that reflects in their work and the amount of people who want to help them as well!

The Festival of Trees needs the support of over 1200 volunteers to put on this wonderful community event.
