The Festival of Trees Needs YOU!

Posted on: 08-5-2011 Posted in: Volunteer Needs

There are a number of opportunities to get involved with the festival of trees.  Here are our most pressing needs:

Events

Senior Social: Need Chair(s) and committee members

One time event held on Friday a.m. for Seniors.  A time for Seniors to socialize, enjoying light refreshments amid the splendor and beauty of the trees with your plan for entertainment on the stage.  You will need to consider what may interest them while you plan a program – working with our Sponsor and our Entertainment Chairs too for recommendations of talent/performances held in previous years or current.

Concert Among the Trees: Need Chair(s) and committee members.

One time event held Sat. evening:  your role would be in researching a local group for entertainment (Chapter 6 performed last year – an a capella group (no instrumentation), logistical planning, review of contract, working with contractual demands, overseeing “green room” and all other needs and demands while putting on a spectacular event ; also planning for next year’s concert, researching names and costs.

Avanti’s Family Night: Need a Co-Chair and committee members

Avanti’s donates and serves food to approximately 1,000 people.  Need logistical planning for drinks and table service; clearing of plates, ticket taking, assisting families carrying many trays to their seats and working with our great Entertainment Chairs for a great program on stage.

Sunday Brunch – need committee members; possibly co-Chairs for 2012

Logistical planning; researching churches to provide ticket sales; assist in menu and cost and working with our great Entertainment  Chairs  to plan a superb program on stage during this special time with family and friends

Special Areas – Need an “overall Chair(s) and more committee members.

We currently have Chairs residing over the Spa and Out & About Trees and are already working!!  The Chair(s) would provide continuity between the subcommittees – overseeing committee members to provide call backs to all places of business that have not responded to initial letter; pick up donations; decorate trees during Festival set-up; provide planning for volunteer needs and set up; order cookies for the Cookie Shop.

Breakfast with Santa  – is returning for Saturday morning!  We have one Chair – need one more!

Your role would be to oversee the flow of program – working with Santa, Mrs. Claus and their Elves to plan their perfect arrival!  Santa pretty well knows how he likes his grand entrance – but you need to see to it that it all falls into place.  Options to Santa’s arrival include a small fun program to coincide with their arrival or a fun craft or game.  Giveaways are happily received too!

Other Volunteer Needs Before Festival, During and After:

Presentation:  Need Chairs and committee

Assisting with creating the overall look and feel of the Festival of Trees – from the moment you walk in the door, until the moment you have to leave. You help to create an experience for our guests that will become a pleasant memory – and leave them wondering “what will they think of for next year”!  Trees and other creations are breathtaking in and of themselves.  Your main considerations are the entrances and stage with a sprinkling of artistic placements throughout the rest of the venue.  This is a very rewarding area from which to work – offering you an opportunity to stretch your wings in creation over an expansive and fresh canvas.

Jingle Bell Junction – Need Co-Chair

This is a lively area built around the idea that kids want something to do that is fun and entertaining while their parents/grandparents are looking at “trees”.  Connect with your inner child and have a blast planning games, crafts, a Talking Tree, Bounce House, giveaway prizes…a trip up to see Santa’s Workshop.  It is all about the children here!!  Co-Chairs should expect to have contact with one another and subcommittees at least monthly at first and then more often as we near the event.  Should have a “smiling personality” and must love kids to apply for this volunteer role!!

Set-up Team – Need Co-Chairs and committee members

Works closely with Operations and Events person(s) to provide best possible implementation of set-up; logistical planning; coordinating with Volunteer Co-Chairs; providing tools, instruction for storage and designation of areas.

Tear-down Team – Need Co-Chairs and committee members

Works closely with Operations and TBF Events person(s) to provide best implementation of tear-down; coordinates with Kiwanis Club of Normal for boxing of trees; coordinates with TBF Staff for trucking services that will deliver trees; coordinates unloading at garages and delivery of semis to farm.
